\n“Allt b\u00f6rjade med ett paket p\u00e5
\nposten. V\u00e5r dotter, Lila, som vid denna tidpunkt var 6 m\u00e5nader fick en
\nbok av sin morfar. I boken fanns ett mystiskt brev.
\n Boken \u00e4r en samlingsvolym med ber\u00e4ttelser om riddare och riddarskapets
\ndygder. En komprimerad version av Don Quixote finns med bla och \u00e4ven en
\nhistoria av Paul F\u00e9val som handlar om en riddar Jeannin. V\u00e5r dotters
\nmorfar hintade i brevet att vi skulle vara sl\u00e4kt med denna riddare och
\natt ber\u00e4ttelsen inte var ett fiktivt verk. Brevet avslutades med \u201cIbland
\n ligger fiktionen n\u00e4rmare verkligheten.\u201d Vi gav oss ut p\u00e5 en resa p\u00e5
\njakt efter riddaren , men resan blev snarare en inre alkemisk
\nuppt\u00e4cktsresa. \u201c <\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\nSolve et Coagula<\/em> betyder att uppl\u00f6sa och sammanf\u00f6ra; det \u00e4r ett latinskt maxim inom alkemi, vars praktiska ut\u00f6vning kallas f\u00f6r den spagyriska<\/em> konsten. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nAlkemi som teori och praktik har
\nmisstolkats genom \u00e5rtusenden, och har i vulg\u00e4ruppfattning reducerats
\ntill misslyckade framst\u00e4llanden av guld och elixir f\u00f6r evigt liv. Den
\nsanna alkemin har traditionellt sysslat med noggranna observationer av
\ntransformativa processer i allt levande; den har s\u00f6kt kartl\u00e4gga den r\u00f6da
\n tr\u00e5den som h\u00e5ller ihop de mest skilda manifestationer av liv fr\u00e5n
\nminsta insekt till en planet. Alkemin i b\u00e5de dess historiska och
\nnuvarande form, som fortfarande ut\u00f6vas och utvecklas p\u00e5 m\u00e5nga platser i
\nv\u00e4rlden, drivs av en teori om att allt som existerar \u00e4r ETT, en
\nslags \u201cunified field theory\u201d som \u00e4ven ligger till grund f\u00f6r merparten av
\n forskning inom den moderna fysiken. P\u00e5 det s\u00e4ttet n\u00e4rmar sig alkemin en
\n samtida uppfattning om v\u00e4rldens beskaffenhet och \u00e4r d\u00e4rmed \u00e5terigen
\naktuell idag. <\/div>\n

\nKonstn\u00e4ren Lisa Jeannin, tillsammans
\nmed maken och partnern Rolf Schuurmans, tillh\u00f6r n\u00e5gra av Sveriges f\u00e5
\nutbildade och dedikerade ut\u00f6vare av den spagyriska konsten. De skapar elixir<\/em>,
\n en slags medicin som distilleras ur en m\u00e4ngd olika mineraler, v\u00e4xter
\noch metaller, under hundratals olika tidsvariabler i harmoni med naturen
\n och de synliga planeterna. De bryter ner substanser till best\u00e5ndsdelar,
\n av vilka de skapar nya substanser. Elixirens syfte \u00e4r att v\u00e4cka de
\nolika livskrafter som finns latent i varje m\u00e4nniska, f\u00f6r att uppn\u00e5
\ntranscendens och djupare utveckling. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nSamma princip, solve et coagula<\/em>,
\n ligger i grund f\u00f6r hela deras konstn\u00e4rskap. Intuitiva storytellers,
\nJeannin och Schuurmans h\u00e4mtar olika best\u00e5ndsdelar ur b\u00e5de den personliga
\n och allm\u00e4nna historien, sin vardag, filosofi, religion, psykologi och
\nvetenskap, och blandar ihop ett konst\u00e4rligt elixir i form av abstrakta
\nfilmer, symbolladdade objekt och mystiska performance. De bjuder in
\nbetraktaren till en v\u00e4rld fylld av mysticism, mirakel och \u00f6dmjukhet
\ninf\u00f6r allt som vi \u00e4nnu inte vet, men ibland anar. Jeannin och Schuurmans
\n iscens\u00e4tter ett laddat m\u00f6te med det ok\u00e4nda, och de g\u00f6r det med besked. I
\n utst\u00e4llningen p\u00e5 galleriet m\u00f6ts vi av ett stort antal g\u00e5tfulla objekt i
\n brons, presenterade i strikt planet\u00e4r ordning, av sju nybryggda elixir
\nsamt av en delvis animerad spelfilm, tonsatt av konstn\u00e4rernas dotter
\nLila. All elektrisk belysning \u00e4r ersatt av levande ljus. P\u00e5
\nvernissagedagen utf\u00f6r de ett performance d\u00e4r alla som \u00f6nskar f\u00e5r ta del
\nav elixiren i en noga utt\u00e4nkt ritual. <\/div>\n

\n“It all started with a package.
\nOur daughter, Lila,  who was at this time 6 months old,  recieved a book
\n from her grandfather. Inside the book was a curious letter. The book
\nwas a collection of fairy tales about knights and chivalery. A short
\nversion of Don Quixote was included in this book but also a story by
\nPaul F\u00e9val about a knight called Jeannin. Our daughters grandfather
\nhinted at the possibility that  we might be related to this knight and
\nthat the story was in fact not a work of fiction.<\/em> Sometimes fiction is more true than facts the letter ended.<\/em>
\n We started a journey in search for the knight, but it  actually turned
\nout to be more of an inner alchemical journey of discovery\u201d. <\/em><\/div>\n

\nSolve et coagula<\/em> means to dissolve and merge; it is a Latin maxim in alchemy, whose practical application is named spagyrics<\/em>. <\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nThe theory and practice of alchemy
\nhave been misinterpreted throughout the millennia; the vulgar
\nunderstanding of it had reduced all alchemy to failed production of gold
\n and the elixir of eternal life. The true alchemy has traditionally
\ndealed with careful observations of the transformative processes in all
\nliving things; it has sought to follow the common thread that holds
\ntogether the most diverse manifestations of life from the smallest
\ninsect to a visible planet. Alchemy, in both its historical and current
\nform, which is still practiced and developed in many places in the
\nworld, is driven by a theory that everything that exists is one, a kind
\nof a unified field theory<\/em> which is also the basis for the
\nmajority of research in the modern physics. In this way, alchemy
\napproaches the contemporary understanding of the nature of the world,
\nand is thus once again relevant today.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nArtist Lisa Jeannin, along with her
\nhusband and partner Rolf Schuurmans, are some of Sweden’s very few
\ntrained and dedicated practitioners of the art of spagyrics. They create
\n elixirs, a kind of medicine that is distilled from a variety of
\nminerals, plants and metals, with hundreds of different time variables,
\nin harmony with nature and the visible planets. They break down
\nsubstances into elements of which they create new substances; the
\npurpose of the elixirs is to evoke the different life forces laying
\ndormant in every human being,  to achieve transcendence and evolve.<\/div>\n
\n <\/div>\n
\nThe same principle, solve et coagula<\/em>,
\n determines the foundation of Jeannin and Schuurmans\u2019 entire
\nartistic oeuvre.  Intuitive storytellers, Jeannin and Schuurmans take
\ndifferent elements from both personal and general history, everyday
\nlife, philosophy, religion, psychology and science, and mix an artistic
\nelixir in the form of semi-abstract films, symbolics objects and
\nmysterious performances. They invite the viewer into a world full of
\nmysticism, miracles and humility before all things that we do not yet
\nknow, but sometimes can sense. Jeannin and Schuurmans stage a charged
\nencounter with the unknown, and they do it with a vengeance. In the
\nexhibition at the gallery we are faced by a large number of mysterious
\nobjects in bronze, presented according to a strict planetaric order; the
\n seven freshly brewed elixirs,  and a partially animated feature film,
\nwith darc ambient music composed by the artists’s daughter Lila. All
\nelectrical lighting has been replaced by candles during the entire
\nduration of the show.  On the opening night, the artists will perform a
\nritual during which all consenting visitors may taste and experience the
\n power of the different elixirs. <\/div>\n

\nLisa Jeannin, born in 1972 in
\nUppsala, was educated at the Malm\u00f6 Art Academy. Rolf Schuurmans, born in
\n 1972 in Oss, the Netherlands, studied at the Tilburg Art Academy. The
\nartists live in Hakebo, Smaland. Parallell to the exhibition at the
\ngallery, the artists will participate in the group show Collected Works! 30 years with the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation<\/em> at Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm.
